Just finished what currently exists of The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal (navigation is easy to miss for first timers - read the comic by clicking the signs in the banner).
I probably found this comic through any of the many LGBT comic artists I follow on Tumblr (if I had to take a guess, it would probably be Megan Rose Gedris), but all I know for sure was it was sitting in my bookmarks folder, and it is awesome (a master wordsmith, am I).
The comic is dominated by an overarching storyline - Amal is on his way across the country to attend his sister’s graduation, while simultaneously fleeing the poor reactions of his parents after he came out to them. He perchance meets TJ, an enigmatic, outrageous character reminiscent of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl stereotype, who offers to accompany our protagonist on his trip.
As the trip goes on, the two become more familiar (and more intimate) with each other, and us with Amal’s past. Throughout the comic we’re given little insight into TJ, however. With only two primary characters I doubt he’ll stay such a mystery for eternity, which leaves me wondering if there are any dark secrets behind TJ’s reasons for leaving town with a complete stranger, and how he has enough money to pay for the entire trip, always in cash…
The comic is a little over 200 pages now, so get reading right now!
P.S. it should be a lot easier to find webcomic people on Tumblr. I’ve gotten pretty decent at sleuthing around by now, but it still took too long to find E.K.’s tumblr.
