These are people who pay no income tax. 47 percent of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn’t connect… my job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.
Just want to take a moment to point out that Romney’s claim about income taxes, while technically true, is also misleading. Yes, that is the correct figure for the number of people who don’t pay income tax, but the tax burden for those people is still pretty high through state and local taxes, sales tax, payroll tax, etc.
